Oh, yeah. I love it.
So, anyway, today we had a little horror movie marathon at my place where me, my brother and some friends wathed a trio of horror films. And, for your sake my dear readers, I will revive them for you.
First out:
Trick 'r Treat (2008)
Directed by: Michael Dougherty
This was the dark horse of the evening. We checked this movie out and it was in fact an enyojable ride. The movie is made up by a bunch of different smaller stories that all interwoven in one way or another. Was it scary? Not really, it had a few "jump scenes" but no directly scary feel or atmosphere to it. But some of the stories where really smart, it was well crafted and over all, me and my friends liked it.
My personal favorite of the stories where the one with Anna Paquin with a nice twist at the end. Sure, some things in this movie were predictable (horror movie clichés) but it was, like I said, still a good film. If you want to see a new flick for Halloween along with the timeless classic, you might wanna check this one out.
Zombies! Zombies! Zombies! (2008)
Director: Jason Murphy
This one was rented as a joke. The tagline for this film is Strippers vs. Zombies so we knew there was no way this could be a good movie.
And you know what? We where onehundred percent right. And that's what made this film so fun to watch.
I wont lie to you, it was painfull to watch this piece of garbage and I would say that it's problably the worst film I ever saw in my life (along with Epic Movie). However, it was so freakin' bad it was fun.
So, what exactly is it with this movie that is so horrible?
Let's see if I can summarize it in a few words:
The movies has a script that would benefit from being written by a schimpanze high on any illegal substance, acting that would have been better if done by carboard cutouts, it had special effects done by a computer that still runs on Windows 95 and it was edited by the pinball wizard (who, if you haven't heard the song, is a deaf, dumb and blind kid, and trust me when I say that he should stick to pinball).
If you want to see a bad movie just for the sake of it, you've got one right here. But if not, avoid it like the plauge.
Halloween (1978)
Director: John Carpenter
Yes, we had to finish this marathon with a movie we knew was good and scary. Playing it safe I bought myself a copy of Halloween (the original one, not Rob Zombies version).
And my, it's still a freakin' masterpiece.
By todays standard, it's not that scary. Not for me anyway. But I have seen it before so it may be just me. But if your younger and/or haven't seen it you owe it to yourself to do it.
It has the mood of a great horrormovie and it's very wellcrafted. With great acting from Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasent among others, an awesome villain in the shape of Mike Myers and terrific directing by John Carpenter and the problably best part of it: The Score.
I've still got the main theme on my head.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I will go and watch some Animaniacs episodes (Draculee, Dracula) and perhaps some halloween themed Tom & Jerry cartoons. Then I will rest for tomorrow is the big day when I'll dress up and hit the town.
Until next time, have a happy Halloween.
